Okatsune Range

Okatsune Shears are very user friendly, and a pleasure to use. You will notice that you can very accurately shape your hedge with ease. The handles of Japanese white oak are well-known to absorb vibration, therefore working with these shears will be a very pleasant experience. The quality and precision of the blades and handles ensures a perfect balance, and sufficient strength that you need to easily cut a hedge, or prune branches.

Okatsune 217 Shrub Shears are precise, well balanced and highly refined garden shears. Very different from Western style shears. The blades are thin, pointed and very sharp. They are robust enough for general clipping work but also great for more creative Japanese style pruning such as cloud pruning, niwaki and topiary. Okatsune are one of the leading manufacturers of pruning tools in Japan and their tools are widely used by professional Japanese gardeners. These shears come with a tough leather sheath for the blades.

Okatsune 230 Hedge Shears These long handled hedge shears are fantastic! The blades are very hard and stay sharper for longer due to the Japanese steel used in manufacturing. The hardwood handles are strong and light making the shears a pleasure to use. These shears are particularly recommended for topiary and shaping work. A leather sheath for the blades is included.

Okatsune hedge shears are very user friendly and enjoyable to work with. The range consists of 2 hedge shears: from real powerhouses for tough hedges to light compact shears for specialist topiary.

Although Okatsune shears are made from the finest steel, they can rust if not properly maintained. We recommend to clean the blades after use. After cleaning, it is wise to oil the shears, and store moisture-free with the cutting blades closed. If you notice that the shear, is cutting less well, you can grind it with the Okatsune whetstone.

MANUFACTURER WARNING. Incorrect use of a Okatsune gardening tool may cause injury. Okatsune, its affiliates, subsidiaries, importers, distributors and dealers are not responsible for and shall not be liable for any fatality, injury, loss, or damage resulting from the use of its products.

The blades of these Japanese hedge shears (Karikomi Basami) are uniquely forged from the finest Izumi Yasugi steel, and have a very high Rockwell hardness of 60.0 to 61.0. This hardness ensures that the blades stay sharper for longer, and always make a clean and precise cut in the wood. However, soft metal in the core of the blade make the shears tough. This toughness makes sure that the cutting blade always fits well on the counter-blade and does not break, not even under heavy load.

The blades are very easy to grind with the Okatsune whetstone. A leather sheath for the blade is included.
